As far as games go street fighter’s Ryu is iconic, along side characters like Ken and Chun li they have cemented their place in the hearts of fans worldwide. Ryu is recognizable the world over, his calm demeanor coupled with his heart of gold has earned him the adoration of fans everywhere. Over the years street fighter fans have been through a lot side by side with him. Now let’s get into five things you did not know about street fighters main character.
HE CAN AFFORD TO BUY SHOES
I am sure some not all of us have taken the time to wonder why street fighter’s main guy can usually be seen without footware. In every iteration of the game Ryu is seen barefoot, trekking without any shoes or sandals. I’m sure this has led some to wonder if he can even afford them. Rest easy, Ryu is not broke. It has been confirmed that he walks barefoot to honor his ancestors and that he actually prefers it. He can afford shoes, he just chooses not to get them. Fun fact he sometimes reconsiders the decision.
STREET FIGHTER’S RYU MAY HAVE BEEN INSPIRED BY GOKU
Does Ryu’s determination to get stronger and encounter stronger fighters sound familiar? That is because it is. His thirst for battle is suspiciously similar to Goku’s and his desire to get stronger also mirrors the saiyan, this is because Goku may have in fact inspired Ryu. The similarities don’t end there with the more observant among us realizing the hadoken eerily resembles the Kamehame wave. It comes as no surprise that these two pure hearted and noble heroes share this connection.
HE DELIBERATELY CUT OFF HIS SLEEVES
Some may have wondered why Ryu’s clothes are like that with his shirt’s sleeves ripped out. He does those purposely. Apparently the sleeves make it more difficult to punch and they also provide the disadvantage of opponents being able to grab them. Ryu does not like how it felt with them been grabbed so as a result he rips them out. I wonder if Ken does the same for the same reasons.
HE HAS ARACHOPHOBIA (FEAR OF SPIDERS)
Yup, Ryu’s fear of spiders must be legend by now but I’m sure some of you don’t k,now. Street fighter’s Ryu has a dislike of spiders in fact he fears them. It is kind of ironic is it not, that one of the world’s greatest street fighters has such an irrational fear but I am sure a lot of us can relate to him.
RYU AND CHUN LI HAVE MADE THE MOST CROSSOVER APPEARANCES.
As far as crossovers go only one other street fighter character can match Ryu and that’s Chun li. Ryu has the most crossover features in the entirety of street fighters with Chun li been the only one matching him. It should come as no surprise though, given how iconic the character has become.
